Guests will be collected from Rome or Perugia airport for this holiday. Hotel Villa Pambuffetti is situated in its own quiet gardens yet within a 3 minute walk to the medieval hill top town of Montefalco which has shops, bars, restaurants, churches and an interesting museum. The fresco cycle on the life of St. Francis by Benozzo Gozzoli (1450-1452) is one of the best frescos in the whole of Italy (according to Andrew Graham-Dixon) and housed in the town's museum. The museum also includes works by Perugino, Melanzio, Pier Antonio Mezzastris, Antoniazzo Romano and Tiberio D'Assisi. Montefalco is famous for the delicious wine "Montefalco Rosso". There are many painting opportunities in the grounds of the hotel and in the town of Montefalco itself with its ancient walls, small streets and beautiful preserved houses. Guests will be taken to the Medieval Gaite Festival in Bevagna. This is a festival which takes place in Bevagna during the last two weeks of June. You will be able to see ancient craft workshops exhibiting the techniques and tools to produce coins, stained glass, candles etc. There will be a blacksmith. a paper maker with its large machines that reduce rags to a pulp to make paper filigree, a breeder of silkworms to produce silk yarn, a potter, a herbalist and much more. There is a medieval market with characters in period costumes that live the daily life of 1200. There will be market stalls selling goods from the period such as fabrics, iron artefacts, wax and tallow candles and various foodstuffs. The holiday will include an excursion with professional guide to Assisi. Assisi has a stunning Basilica which houses the remains of Saint Francis and is highly decorated with frescos. There will be a guided tour of a local vinyard which produces the award winning Montefalco Sagranto DOCG . Guests will be shown how the wine is produced from the grape to the finished product and of course taste it..
