Guests will be collected from Rome or Perugia airport for this painting holiday in Montefalco. Hotel Villa Pambuffetti is situated in its own quiet gardens, yet it is within a 3 minute walk to the medieval hill top town of Montefalco which has shops, bars, restaurants, churches and an interesting museum. The fresco cycle on the life of St. Francis by Benozzo Gozzoli (1450-1452) is one of the best frescoes in the whole of Italy (according to Andrew Graham-Dixon) and is housed in the town's museum. The museum also includes works by Perugino, Melanzio, Pier Antonio Mezzastris, Antoniazzo Romano and Tiberio D'Assisi. Montefalco is famous for the delicious wine "Montefalco Rosso". There are many painting opportunities in the grounds of the hotel and in the town of Montefalco itself, with its ancient walls, small streets and beautifully, preserved houses. The holiday will include a visit to the Bevagna to paint which is a charming pretty walled town nearby. There will be an excursion with professional guide to Assisi. Assisi has a stunning Basilica which houses the remains of Saint Francis and is highly decorated with frescoes.
